Engagement photos by DC wedding photographer
In this photo, I had a real challenge on my hands. You can see that my client’s skin tones were significantly shades apart. In addition, they were wearing black. So, I needed to pay close attention to my camera settings to ensure that I held the details in both their faces and their clothes.
When I take portraits, I like to come in close, even if I crop off parts of their heads or body. I want expressions and I like to work in thirds. I want eyes in the top third or left third of the photo. In this case, you see that I did both. I like chest to chest, face to face hugs and I shoot enough photos so that I know when I’m done we have many great ones to choose from.
I also like to set the tone for my photo session. If I am happy and smiling and energetic then so will my clients be as well. I’m physical and affection and pull them together. In the end, we all have fun and the photos come out great.
I believe that an engagement portrait session gives you a good indication of how I will perform on the wedding day. However, I do notice that I tend to be much more serious on the day of the wedding. I’m very focused because there are a lot of things that can go wrong. I’m very conscious of time and equipment. One wrong setting on my lens or camera or flash and hundreds of critical images could be ill exposed.
Your wedding day may not be the most important day of your life, but it’s certainly up there and I want to make sure that I do everything I can to help make it pleasant, less stressful, fun, and well documented through wonderful story-telling photographs and professionally posed portraits.
Kindly,
Blake
